Our Hometown

Grimsby processes approximately 70% of the UK’s seafood, contributing more than £1.5 billion to our region.  The town has long been recognised as the epicentre of England’s fish processing industry. Yet, until the creation of the UK Seafood School, the industry lacked a dedicated national seafood training institution.

Despite its status as the leading hub for fish processing in England, local businesses in Grimsby face significant challenges in attracting and retaining a skilled workforce. This issue has become so pressing that a training and development manager from the area’s largest seafood processing company has described the situation as being in a ‘state of crisis.’ Additionally, Grimsby has been designated a ‘level-up’ region, highlighting the need for targeted investment and development.

Our school aims to fill this gap by establishing a premier seafood centre of excellence within TEC Partnership, one of the country’s largest further and higher education providers, right in the heart of Grimsby.

Seafood judges discussing the competition

As a future-focused institution, the school is designed to be flexible and responsive to the evolving demands of the seafood sector. By doing so, it will help reduce the outward migration of talent, ensuring that the skills being developed align with the economic vision for the region. This distinctive contribution will be essential in supporting Grimsby’s ongoing development and its role within the broader UK seafood industry.
